Alex Parr here; I finally got to fully write/direct a Crazy Compositions thing! It certainly took a while, that's for sure.
For those out of the loop, Garry is a very old character. He was created just a month after the debut of Matt; but also a month before CosmicToons became a thing!
According to the title and description of Garry's original Scratch project, alongside being Matt Inkboy's best friend, he was also supposed to make an appearance on Kaie's then-upcoming object show; which I believe was meant to be a reboot of his previous series "The Object Show"? That show got canned, and so did Garry; he was forgotten about for basically the entirety of CosmicToons' existence until I wrote this script.
The script for this short was actually written three years in advance for CosmicToons' seventh anniversary! It only took Kaie this long to remember it existed... and it also took this long for him to come up with a title!
My original plan for Garry was to have him fully animated just like everyone else. Kaie instead decided to animate him just like he would animate his stuff back in the Scratch days (see Alex's Odd Life), including using Garry's original sprite for this purpose; which I allowed.
In the "voice draft" that I recorded for this cartoon, I read Garry's lines as if he had a normal voice. Kaie decided to give him a more "western?" sounding accent, alongside ad-libbing some of his lines; like "the wrong daggone universe".
Originally, Garry was going to be rendered without anti-aliasing just like everyone else. During production, we experiemented with ways to give him a "smoother" appearance (like how characters would actually appear back in the Scratch days) before we landed on a suitable method.
According to Kaie, we're going to use this method of "mixed rendering" for all of Crazy Compositions henceforth; as it also gives the backgrounds their "smooth" appearance once again.
Dylan also did some revisionary changes to the short; like making Matt notice Garry just before he stopped walking, and also giving him a little wave animation. I also suggested to him that we make Matt not realize Chloe was there before she started talking, as I originally envisioned.
The short was originally going to end like all the other Ditzy Ditties. I gave Kaie the idea for us to do a "Happy Anniversary" message, similar to our 6th anniversary short. I figured this anniversary was important enough for us to repeat something like that.
I also gave Kaie the idea to use both logos in the outro (the current one and the re-stylized "OG"), with a gag from his old 3D Movie Maker intro being utilized to switch between them. Dylan came up with the idea for Chole to hit the logo.
For some reason, Ruby sent her line in via a Discord voice message through her phone instead of a recording done through her computer. Kaie used this take anyways due to time constraints (go figure!)
I decided at the last minute to sneak my voice into the outro, just for fun. As the director, I felt that this was an absolutely necessary inclusion.
